Kindergarten is the child’s and family's first introduction to North Saginaw Charter Academy. Partnerships are developed between schools and families that provide a strong community of support. Each child brings a wealth of educational and cultural experiences to kindergarten. Children have encountered many educators (parents, siblings, extended family, friends, neighbors and pre-school) before they meet their kindergarten teacher.

Kindergarten teachers promote self-discovery and self-awareness. They foster independence and help children gain and use skills necessary for working together as a class and in small groups. Children learn to function well as group members, ask for help, assist others, complete a task, and put things away. Each child is encouraged to move beyond his/her current level of understanding.

Kindergarten curriculum is designed to address all areas of development (social, emotional, physical and intellectual). It is designed to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. North Saginaw Charter Academy has three full-day kindergarten classrooms. The curriculum focuses primarily on Math and Reading instruction with the instruction tools of the Open Court Reading and Saxon Math programs. Science and Social Studies are also explored daily through group activities and classroom projects. Children are active learners: touching, trying, moving, talking, writing, drawing, and questioning. Throughout the day, children have opportunities to explore, investigate, and predict.

The kindergarten classroom is a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment. It provides children opportunities to explore new ideas. Students are challenged with new experiences that engage budding readers, writers, scientists, mathematicians, and artists. Teachers assist children to become empowered, feel valued, and display competence and success in school.

We welcome your children as they enter kindergarten. We share in your excitement as we embark on this journey together.
